Gilbert Announces Breast Cancer Awareness Effort in October

Gear & Industry Spotlight
Sunday, September 1, 2019

In September 2009, 181 women set the Féderátion Aéronautique Internationale World Record for Largest Women’s Formation Skydive at Skydive Perris in California. Known as Jump for the Cause, the record event also raised more than $900,000 for breast cancer research. Skydiver and filmmaker Gulcin Gilbert produced the critically acclaimed documentary film “Pink Skies” about the jump and is now spearheading an effort to mark the anniversary of the record with a Skydiving Sisters Breast Cancer Awareness Solidarity Day in October.

Gilbert invites drop zones and skydiving groups around the world to conduct a one-day women’s skydiving event at any time in October to raise breast-cancer awareness, have fun and create a video clip to share. The type of event is up to the group creating it and can include a fundraiser for a local breast cancer charity, record events, competitions or just plain fun jumps. Each participating DZ will receive a copy of “Pink Skies” to screen at the event. Following the event, Gilbert will collect the clips and create a special video.

Those who wish to participate should contact Gilbert at pinkskyz2009@gmail.com. Each participating group will receive an event packet, a screening copy of “Pink Skies” and other information in September.
