Jumpers Set Head-Down Sequential World Records

by Meghan Evilsizor

On June 30 at Skydive Chicago in Ottawa, Illinois, jumpers from five countries came together in hopes of setting head-down sequential world records. Led by organizers Matt Fry and Melissa Nelson Lowe, the team first set out to accomplish a three-point formation. On attempt eight, the team, which included 12 women, set the Féderátion Aéronautique Internationale World Record for Largest Three-Point Head-Down Formation Skydive with a 42-way.

Riding the wave of accomplishment, the 42-person team chose not to stop there. On attempt 10, they also accomplished the FAI World Record for Largest Four-Point Head-Down Formation Skydive. For 13 of the jumpers, these were their first world records! As if two world records weren’t enough, the team spent its last day of the event coming together to creatively build other sequential formations to display what can be done with this special skill set.
