2008 Skydiver's Information Manual Now Available
The printed, spiral-bound version of the 2008 SIM is now available through the USPA Shop. The downloadable PDF is also available on the website. The HTML online version will be available on the USPA website soon; the 2007 version is still online for reference. USPA will again include a change document on our website, which lists all of the changes from 2007 to 2008, to provide a quick reference to the changes.
The manual sells individually for $25, but bulk orders can drop the price to as low as $18.75 for 100 or more, and the shipping is free for orders of five or more. Price breaks start for orders of five or more manuals, which helps each drop zone and course director purchase bulk orders to fit their needs and save some money at the same time. Each student and licensed jumper on the drop zone should be encouraged to own their own copy of the SIM as a personal resource for accurate information on a wide variety of skydiving disciplines, rules and recommendations.
Each current Safety &Training Advisor and Instructor-Examiner may request a printed copy of the SIM at no charge by sending an e-mail to safety@uspa.org. Many have chosen to use the electronic versions, which provides an easy way to search for information, rather than having to skim through printed pages.

2008 Instructional Rating Manual
The 2008 IRM is projected to be available in mid to late October. Like the SIM, it is also available at a discount for bulk purchases. Both the SIM and IRM must be dated within the previous two years for use in any USPA instructional rating course.

The Home Stretch
With the summer season behind us, we have now entered the final quarter for the year. However, it is still important to keep all of our skydiving friends focused on safe skydiving even though the pace has slowed down a bit. Continue working to separate the high-performance canopies from those landing with a standard pattern, and keep your local jumpers focused on established safety procedures so they develop good habits.
Section 5 and Section 6 of the SIM can serve as terrific refresher material for seasoned jumpers and offer students a chance to learn the things they need to know as licensed skydivers.
We are poised to break a record for the lowest number of fatalities since 1962, which ended with 19 fatalities. Let's all work together and break that record!
