The Team Network
By Erin Murphy
Perris Valley Skydiving in California hosted its annual team-building workshop over the Thanksgiving weekend. Formation skydivers came to meet each other and possibly find new teammates for the upcoming competition season. The weekend included three days of mixing, mingling, fun competition and free coaching from Perris Performance Plus (P3), which organizes camps and offers coaching.
Friday focused on 4-way team building. A turnout of nearly 50 jumpers meant a huge range of experience and individual goals, including rookies brand new to 4-way looking for a fun group to learn and improve with throughout the year, experienced competitors hoping to build on their past performances and veterans willing to do whatever it takes to win gold. No matter what their goals or experience levels, everyone could take advantage of the free coaching from the P3 coaches, including Dan Brodsky-Chenfeld, Pat McGowan and Erin Murphy, as well as Josh Hall and Uli Stuewe from Perris’ pro team, Perris Fury.
Saturday featured Perris’ annual 16-way Turkey Meet. Mike Anderson and Eric Gin each headed a team of local jumpers, while McGowan and Hall joined forces to captain a pick-up team. Meanwhile, Stuewe and Murphy organized the jumpers not participating in the 16-way competition, using the morning’s jumps to practice diving skills, something a little different for jumpers accustomed to launching linked 4-way exits. The group then split into two 8-ways for the afternoon, giving the jumpers more individual attention from the coaches.
The jumpers remaining Sunday afternoon formed two groups for the 8-way team building day. Hall and Gin led the groups, and Brodsky-Chenfeld provided additional coaching.
Many participants commented that they went home from the weekend with lots of contacts and many great ideas to put into action.
