Bridging the Gap
by Michele Lesser

Coach Mike Inabinet works with novices on formation skydiving skills.

Bridge the Gap, a boogie for low-number jumpers of all disciplines, took place at Skydive Elsinore in California June 7-8. DZ co-owner John Hamilton explained why he developed this boogie: "Everyone who is an experienced skydiver was new in this sport at one time-everyone," he said. He started Bridge the Gap three years ago in an attempt to create a clear path of learning for new jumpers, and the boogie has grown and improved since its inception.

Nearly 50 participants gathered at Skydive Elsinore for the intensive training weekend. Michael James, a coach and competitor with team Elsinore Equinox, served as a group leader for the boogie. John LeBlanc, vice president of Performance Designs, gave seminars on ram-air flight and packing. Kama Mountz, who runs the DZ's gear store, and master rigger Greg Beecher led an equipment seminar Sunday morning.
