The Parachutist staff welcomes and solicits editorial and photographic submissions from our readers.

Please be aware that:

• Photographic submissions are accepted with the understanding that the person submitting them has the right to publish the contents of the submission and has assumed appropriate model releases for recognizable subjects in the image. The person submitting the material assumes all liability for content, as well as assuming responsibility for any claims arising therefrom and/or made against the Publisher.
• The Parachutist staff reserves the right to post the submitted material on USPA’s website as well as redistribute the material in its final, laid-out form for reprint requests.
• Parachutist considers only photos of activities that comply with the United States Parachute Association’s Basic Safety Requirements.
• Parachutist pays for only exclusive, first-run photographs unless prior arrangements have been made with the managing editor.
• Photos are kept on file and may be used at a later date along with a topical article. If you would like a picture submitted electronically withdrawn from consideration, e-mail us with the approximate date of submission and a copy of the image for reference or a description of the picture.

For cover consideration, the photo should ideally have a vertical composition, though horizontal shots can be cropped to fit at times. For the centerfold, they should ideally be horizontal with enough image to hold a two-page spread.

Always include the photographer’s name, the names of the people in the shot (unless there are eight or more jumpers), where and when the photo was taken, as well as any interesting information about the picture. Also include an e-mail address or phone number where you can be reached.

An image should arrive 30 to 45 days in advance of the cover date if it is to be used in that issue.

Electronically via the website (preferred)
Electronic submissions through the website are ideal and should be high-resolution images, ideally 400 ppi and no smaller than five by seven inches (2,000 by 2,800 pixels). Click here or go to the bottom of this page.

Via e-mail
Small number of high-res photos may be sent via e-mail. If you have a large number of images, you may send low-resolution JPG files for review first. If the photos will potentially be used in the magazine, you will receive an e-mail asking for a higher-resolution file. Additionally, if you have files stored on a website and would like for those to be reviewed, this can also be done by e-mail. Our e-mailed address for photo submission is communications@uspa.org.

Via U.S. Mail
Parachutist accepts photographic prints and computer disks via mail. Photos on disk must be at least 400 ppi and no smaller than five by seven inches (2,000 by 2,800 pixels) in order to be considered. We do not need and cannot use negatives or slides.

If you are sending a print for consideration for the cover, center spread, USPA calendar or Closing In, bigger is better. An 8 x 10 can be reduced for placement elsewhere in the magazine, but a 4 x 6 cannot be blown up to full-page size. Do not send prints larger than 10 x 12. If you would like any submitted prints returned, send a self-addressed stamped envelope. Please do not write on the back of the photo; however, you may tape information to the back of the picture. Photos are kept on file and may be used at a later date along with a topical article. If you would like prints returned, rather than kept on file, let us know and include the SASE.
