NTSB Releases Safety Report (updated 01/27/09)
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has released their long-awaited
Special Investigation Report on the Safety of Parachute Jump Operations
. The report was announced at a mid-September NTSB hearing that attracted media attention. USPA representatives attended that meeting.
The contents of the report were used by the NTSB to issue recommendations to both the FAA and USPA. Staff members from both organizations met in October, agreeing on a plan to satisfy the NTSB’s request for better jump plane maintenance and pilot training. Both organizations responded to the NTSB, describing our cooperative plan. USPA staff will announce details to the Board of Directors at their February meeting in Reno, Nevada.
