Airspeed and Knights Continue Championship Reign

The 4-way and 8-way formation skydiving events completed Wednesday, October 28, at the USPA National Skydiving Championships at Skydive Arizona. Arizona Airspeed and the Golden Knights are once again the national champions in 4-way and 8-way, respectively, earning slots on the U.S. Team that will compete at the 2016 World Championships at Skydive Chicago. In addition, the Knights set a new 8-way world record with 32 points in the first round, surpassing the 18-year-old record set by the Knights at the 1997 World Air Games in Turkey.

Skydive Arizona once again ran like a well-oiled machine, flying more than 130 loads on Monday, the busiest day, for the 60 4-way teams. The final rounds of 4-way completed Tuesday, followed by the 8-way event. USPA awarded medals to the winning teams Wednesday evening.

In 4-way advanced, the gold went to Air Force Smolder, with Skydive Midwest NEXT earning gold in intermediate. In the 8-way advanced event, Sugar Free Haribo Gummy Bears and Motiv8 XP were tied for first after the final round, and tied again in the jump-off round, so the new tie-break rules were applied and the gold went to Motive8 XP for the fastest time to the last common scoring formation. Air Force Rendezvous earned the gold in intermediate 8-way.

The competition continues this week with 10-way and 16-way formation skydiving, followed by artistic freeflying and freestyle and the DZ’s Halloween Carnivale this weekend.

Complete scores are available on OmniSkore.com. Be sure to follow all the action on Skydive-TV, broadcasting daily from Skydive Arizona.
