USPA will be closed on Friday, July 3, in observance of the federal holiday in advance of Independence Day. USPA will be open for business as usual on Monday, July 6.

USPA Board Member and Pacific Regional Director Chris Quaintance announced his intention to resign from the USPA Board of Directors, citing personal reasons. The resignation will take place at the upcoming board meeting near Dallas, Texas, on July 10-12. The vacancy may be filled by a vote of the board at the upcoming meeting, but candidates must first be nominated by a board member at that meeting. According to a press release by the U.S. Army Parachute Team Golden Knights, the team is currently seeking candidates for their 2009 assessment and selection. To be selected, an individual must “be on active duty status, have completed 100 freefall parachute jumps and have a good military and civilian record.” In addition, “Individuals submitting their packets for selection will attend a rigorous six-week assessment and selection program of training.” Applications are available on www.usarec.army.mil/hq/goldenknights and must be submitted to the team by July 24.

The summer 2009 USPA Board of Director’s Meeting will be held July 10-12 at The Crowne Plaza Dallas in Addison, Texas.The General Membership Meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on July 10. According to a press release, The U.S. Army Golden Knights will perform a tandem jump on June 12 with the 41st President, George H. W. Bush, as he celebrates his 85th birthday. The event will take place in Kennebunkport, Maine, as family and friends gather to observe the former president's jump. Mr. Bush's first parachute jump took place during World War II. Since then, he has made several jumps with the Golden Knights. His most recent jump was in 2007. Robin Meade, anchor of HLN's "Morning Express with Robin Meade," will make her first tandem jump at the same time. CNN and HLN (formerly Headline News) will feature prominent coverage of the jumps.
